What’s Your Goddess Sign?

by Anita Ryan

Your natural-born attributes are no accident – they can be attributed to an ancient goddess whose energy prevailed at the time of your birth.

Just like astrology, goddess energy defines who you are and what your life purpose may be.

The time of day, year and even moon cycle influences our personalities, values and choices. Women born into the new energy of spring, for example, are Venus-inspired and are natural lovers. They can’t help swing those hips or flutter those eyelashes – Venus energy is impossible to resist.

Every action, thought, projection of self, and treatment of others is a reflection of your goddess sign.

For example, if you react to a boyfriend’s indiscretions by punishing the other woman, you are displaying Juno energies – she went to extraordinary lengths to avenge her husband’s concubines.

Or if you like to lay low and stay out of trouble, your ruling goddess is most likely to be Hestia – she only wants a simple, uncomplicated, enriching and contented life.

No matter whether you’re pleb or celeb, your goddess sign defines how you manage your choices and destinies.

Many attributes of life have been described in this book so you can see that no matter what the situation, understanding your goddess sign is one way to ensure you get through each day smiling.

Mar 21 – Apr 20: ATHENA

Powerful and zesty Athena is the beautiful warrior queen who stood guard over the ancient city of Athens. Born leaders, Athena-inspired women know no fear, or that’s the face they present to the world at least. They experience trouble with self-expression, resorting to politics and force to coerce a project off the ground. They can be tough, independent, clever and resourceful women, but they should not be afraid to ask for help if they need it, and more importantly, allow people to help them.

Do this: Wear a light blue stone such as Lapis Lazuli around your neck to help you find your voice.

Apr 21 – May 21: JUNO

Comfort, warmth and material security are the things that keep devoted wife Juno happy. Prepared to go to any lengths to protect their relationships, Juno-inspired women fight for the elements they want and deserve in order to preserve and enrich the home environment. They sometimes show an inclination for revenge on anyone who threatens the stable union or home life. Instead of feeling threatened by outside influences, Juno-women should instead strengthen the relationship from within themselves, focussing on loyalty, fidelity, intimacy, inter-dependence and mutual respect.

Do this: Repeat this affirmation: I am secure, safe, and open to love.

May 22 – Jun 21: PERSEPHONE

Vital and intelligent Persephone, erstwhile professional victim, was the innocent girl that was kidnapped to the underworld by Hades (yes, but was it really kidnap? Well, maybe, at first). Persephone-girls tend to be fickle, meaning “yes” when they say “no”. They secretly enjoy being the scapegoat and having their life in a shambles, and won’t do anything about it while they are really waiting for a rescuer to swoop in and save them. Persephone-girls should stop playing the drama queen and come up from the underworld – it is time to stop luxuriating in guilt and try honesty on for size.

Do this: Practise saying “yes”, and meaning it.

Jun 22 – Jul 23: DIANA

Powerful and protective, Diana is the Roman goddess of nature, fertility, children, providence and harvest. Finely tuned to their environment and the feelings of others, Diana-inspired women are hunted for their natural empathy and sensitivity. Deep down though, they want escape. They hunger for more than their daily routine, but can’t see their way past their busy lifestyle. Commitments and responsibilities make an escape (and “time out”) seem like an impossible dream. Diana-women should take time to look after their own need for love instead of always giving it away to others.

Do this: Take a stroll in a place with nature and pick up anything that catches your eye. Whether it’s a stone or a feather, keep it with you to keep you grounded.

Jul 24 – Aug 23: PELE

The bright and fiery Pele is the Hawaiian goddess whose spirit dwells inside the largest active volcano in Hawaii. Full of passionate energy, Pele gals love being the centre of attention and the life of the party. Their well developed ego is a mask, however, for the nagging feeling that their energy is being misdirected. They work so hard for the attention and admiration from other people, they allow flattery to interfere with their otherwise balanced judgement. Pele-inspired women should cut their losses and work to channel their energy in a more rewarding way.

Do this: Stare at a yellow stone and visualise what you really want to happen. Repeat this until it becomes habit, and habit becomes manifested reality.

Aug 24 – Sep 23: HESTIA

Goddess of household abundance and well-being, Hestia energises the home with a welcoming energy, healthy food and comfort. As such, she is a creature of habit and organisation, purity, sincerity, sanctity and safety. But just as the ancient goddess Hestia is depicted in a pose of immobility, so too are her women immobilised by their own habits and need for organisation – simply, they may feel like they are “stuck in a rut.” Their convictions keep them so absorbed in their work, they can’t imagine living any other way. They need to ask themselves, “What’s the self-sacrifice for?” and break from their obsessive patterns.

Do this: Think of something spontaneous and daring. Take that leap of faith, and just do it.

Sep 24 – Oct 23: VENUS

The perfect lover, Venus is the Roman goddess of love and beauty. She rules over a woman’s sense of style and her appreciation for acts of love, pleasure and romance. Venus-born women find it difficult not to walk with a sassy step as they search for heady relationships, friendships and social acceptance. In their quest for perfection they are prone to self-criticism, forgetting the aura they exude is the aura they attract. And though they are insightful leaders, they can blur the line between business and pleasure, which can result in diminished professional success. Venus women should revel in their playful character and strong personality, but keep it appropriate to each situation.

Do this: Be a magnet for positive energy and smile at everyone today.

Oct 24 – Nov 22: MEDUSA:

Archetypal Amazon warrior, Medusa was a beautiful African queen who defended the freedom of her family, friends and territory with a fierce passion. She represents courage, strength and an abiding patience in seeking vengeance for wrong doings. Medusa women need to be careful they don’t become obsessed with bearing a grudge though, or they will emulate their namesake after her face became frozen with rage and her hair a seething tangle of snakes. By articulating hurt or feelings of betrayal, Medusa women can remain in control of creative expression rather than physical destruction.

Do this: Sing in the shower and release pent-up feelings of anger out through your voice.

Nov 23 – Dec 21: RHIANNON

A maiden of ethereal beauty, Rhiannon was the Welsh goddess of fertility and rebirth, transformation, wisdom, and magic. She was born with the first moonrise, embedding her with an inner urge for adventure and travel. As such, she rode her unearthly white mare between this world and the Underworld to satisfy her thirst for discovery. Rhiannon-inspired women can be so focussed on the horizon, they forget about being sensitive to those around them. They could learn a little tact occasionally, and anticipate others’ needs rather than waiting for them to ask.

Do this: Identify someone who needs your help, and assist them without thought of payment or thanks.

Dec 22 – Jan 20: DEMETER

In Greek mythology, Demeter is the goddess of the harvest. When her daughter Persephone was abducted by Hades, Demeter’s search took her on the path of poverty, abuse and eventually madness. It is typical of Demeter-inspired women to put the perceived needs of others first, at the expense of their own well being. They aspire to champion a cause in spectacular style, but tend to “smother” (as opposed to “mother”) the project they feel responsible for. They are better off ignoring their ingrained sense of frugality and self sacrifice and concentrate instead on cultivating things that make them happiest – children, herbs, or a comfortable home, for example.

Do this: Burnout is not your goal. Carry rose quartz to give some love back to yourself.

Jan 21 – Feb 19: HATHOR

Patron of dancers, mother of the gypsies, Hathor is the ancient Queen of Heaven. Hathor-inspired women have the gift of shape-shifting – the ability to transform themselves from a woman crippled with anxiety to a creature shining with light and radiance. In fact, it is a gift they use often in their quest for reinvention. They are constantly seeking new and fresh inspiration, which does not always sit well with more grounded people. With each new manifestation, they need to spare a thought for those they leave behind – not everyone is flexible with changing natures.

Do this: List five personality traits that you want to be remembered for when you die. Then live them, every day.

Feb 20 – Mar 20: OSHUN

Mother of rivers and the bloodstream, Oshun is the Nigerian goddess of universal love and sensuality. Oshun women are as flexible and predictable as the tides, being generous with their time for themselves during an “ebb”, and for others during a “flow”. They “go with the flow” of their instincts in order to find inner tranquility, but can lose sight of the real world in doing so. Sometimes it would be healthy for them stop drifting along without direction or intent, and instead to find a place where they can simply be.

Do this: Float on a still lake or pool but keep one foot anchored on the edge.

What is Vedic Astrology

by Albert Arul Prakash Rajendran

Vedic Astrology is the study of positions of heavenly bodies like Sun, Moon, Mars etc. with respect to the zodiac and the interpretation of the effect of such heavenly bodies on the events in earth in the life of an individual or a country or the whole world. It is called Vedic Astrology, because the principles on which the study and interpretations are made were first enumerated in the ‘Vedas’ – the first treatise of ancient Hindu philosophy.

What is Zodiac?

What is Zodiac? If we imagine a path in the sky at approximately 18 degrees arc in the width encircling the earth in an east west direction, groups of stars will appear to be apparently fixed with respect to earth along this imaginary path. There are 27 groups of stars in the path which are recognized by Vedic Astrology. These groups of stars in the imaginary path are called zodiac. This zodiac forms the reference for fixing up the position of any planet or star in the sky. Since this zodiac is encircling the earth it can be measured as 360 degrees, where these 27 groups of stars are evenly placed, hence each of them have a span of 360 degrees/27 = 13 degrees 20′ arc.

What are Zodiac Signs or Rashis?

When the zodiac is divided into 12 equal parts each having a span of 30 degrees arc, then each of this arc is called a zodiac sign. A sign, therefore, will consist of 2 ? groups of stars. A particular group of stars called Ashwini, in the zodiac is considered the starting point of the zodiac and is called the star no.1. Similarly, there are individual name for the 26 group of stars. Ashwini(1), Bharini(2), Krittika(3) are the first three stars in the zodiac. As stated earlier, the first span of 30 degrees arc in the zodiac will consist of Ashwini, Bharini and ? of Krittika constitute the first zodiac sign called ‘Aries’. The name of the remaining 11 zodiac signs after ‘Aries’ are : Taurus(2), Gemini(3), Cancer(4), Leo(5), Virgo(6), Libra(7), Scorpio(8), Sagittarius(9), Capricorn(10), Aquarius(11) and Pisces(12).

What are Heavenly Bodies?

Influencing the events on earth Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu all loosely termed as planets, appear to revolve around the earth continuously while always staying within the limits of zodiac. Vedic astrology in the ancient text had recognized these 9 entities. Out of which, the Sun is a star. Moon is the satellite of earth. Rahu and Ketu are two mathematical points on the zodiac and the rest are planets. Modern Vedic Astrologers also consider the effect of distant planets like Neptune, Uranus and Pluto.

What is an Ecliptic?

The apparent movement or path of the Sun along the zodiac is called the Ecliptic. The ecliptic passes through the center of zodiac and is inclined at an angle of 23 degrees and 28 minutes to the center of zodiac.

What are Rahu and Ketu?

Moon’s apparent path around the earth intersects the ecliptic obliquely at two points called the ‘Nodes’. The point where the Moon crosses the ecliptic from south to north is called the ascending node or ‘Rahu’ when it crosses the ecliptic from north to south is called the descending node or ‘Ketu’. These 2 points are 6 zodiac signs or 180 degrees apart. The position of these two points with respect to zodiac signs are of equal importance to position of other planets with respect to zodiac sign in Vedic astrology.

What is Ascendant/Rising Sign?

The ecliptic passes through the center of the zodiacal belt which extends 9 degrees on its either(north or south) side. The planets remain within the limits of the zodiac. The earth rotates around its axis once in twenty four hours from west to east. As a consequence, all planets appear to revolve around the earth from east to west once in twenty four hours. The zodiac with its stars and signs fixed upon it also appears to revolve around the earth from east to west once in every 24 hours. Thus, all points on signs and stars on the zodiac will appear to successfully rise in the eastern horizon and set at the western horizon once in 24 hours. Thus, for every point and time on earth there will be a unique point on a particular zodiac sign which will be rising at the eastern horizon.

When an individual is born, the point in the particular zodiac sign, expressed in longitude, which is rising at the eastern horizon at the exact time of his/her birth for the exact latitude/longitude of the place where he/she is born is the unique space time coordinate for the individual. This is called the individual’s Ascendant(Lagna) or the Rising Sign.

What is Janma Rashi/Moon Sign/Moon Ascendant?

In Vedic Astrology, the exact position of the Moon at the exact time of birth with respect to the zodiac sign and the point in the zodiac sign expressed in longitudes will be Janma Rashi/ Moon Sign/ Moon Ascendant.

What is Sun Sign/Sun Ascendant?

Like the Moon sign, the longitude of Sun with respect to zodiac at the exact time of birth is the Sun Sign of the individual. Western astrology lays great importance on Sun signs and ALL YOUR ZODIAC SIGNS are your Sun signs as per Vedic astrology. The Sun sign on the basis of Western astrology and Vedic Astrology, will differ by one sign many a times. This is because as per Western astrology the zodiac is also moving, whereas, the Vedic astrologers considers the zodiacs to be fixed. The reason why this difference comes will be explained on the web page at a later date. Meanwhile, we are just mentioning this so that you do not get alarmed to see the difference in the zodiac sun signs when computed by the Vedic astrology.

This will be an on going page which will be updated regularly. You are most welcome to contribute your views and your questions for the benefit of all visitors on our site. Relevance of Astrology?

As per Vedic astrology, what will happen to us in this life is predetermined and based on the ‘Karma’ of our past lives. What is the relevance of ‘free will’ is a matter of screens philosophical debate. But, we believe that 75% of what will happen to us is what we can possibly know through astrology, but the balance 25% is critical, which we create through our own efforts and it is we with our efforts control our day to day destiny and that is our ‘Karma’ in this life. vedic Astrology provides us with an insight in our quest to shape our destiny.

Chinese Zodiac Signs

by Bo Guo

Each Chinese New Year begins on the day of first new moon. In the western year 2005, the new moon began on February 9. It was the Chinese year 4702. In actuality, most Chinese began using the western, or solar, calendar in the early twentieth century, except on important holidays. Many of the calendars in China show both the solar dates of the western calendar and the lunar dates of the Chinese calendar. Chinese astrology is based on the twelve cycles of the moon.

The Chinese zodiac consists of twelve animals, rather than the solar signs used in the west. In the Chinese calendar each period lasts for a full cycle of the moon, from new to full. There are twelve complete lunar cycles in a Chinese zodiac year, but one animal symbolizes the entire year. According to their calendar, the Chinese complete a cycle every twelve years. So if you were born in the year of the rat, you would celebrate your zodiac birthday every twelve years, and your Chinese zodiac sign would be the rat. In the west your astrological sign appears once each year.

The calendar and its animals were created from an ancient legend. It tells us that the animals were all fighting about who was going to be in the prime (first) position on the Chinese calendar. The gods devised a test in which the animals would compete for their position by swimming across a river. Another version says that the Buddha requested visits by the animals before he left earth. He named the moon cycles after the animals in order of appearance. So the Chinese zodiac symbol is a circle divided into twelve equal sections; think of it as if you were marking off slices of a pie. There is a picture of the animal representing that Chinese zodiac sign in each section. The calendar’s use dates clear back to 2600 BC.

The animals used in Chinese astrology are rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep (goat), monkey, rooster, dog, and boar (pig). Persons born during their cycle are said to take on their animal traits:

  • Rat – Perfectionist, charming, aggressive, secretive, party-loving, quick-witted, stubborn, good at politics and business, can be mean
  • Ox – Quiet, quick to anger, excellent memories, hard-working, family loyalty, creative, skilful hands, responsible, self-confident
  • Tiger – Leaders, courageous, territorial, possessive, fighters, generous and selfish, magnetic, passionate, works solo, dynamic
  • Rabbit – Sweet-natured, conservative, artistic, tasteful, sentimental, emotional, shy, faithful to partners, romantic, avoid fighting
  • Dragon – Regal, leader, centre of attention, powerful, lucky, aggressive, dynamic, big ego, snobbish, tyrannical
  • Snake – Charming, popular, lies easily, possessive, hates rejection, deep thinker, well-mannered, lazy, romantic, insecure
  • Horse – Crowd lover, rebellious, energetic, selfish, self-centered, good with money, cunning, lacks self-confidence
  • Sheep or goat – Artistic, creative, lazy, disorganized, charming, well-mannered, dreamy, pessimistic, romantic, worrier, not good in business
  • Monkey – Charming, witty, clever, emotional, unscrupulous, love food but not gluttons, deceptive, funny, lucky
  • Rooster – Straight-forward, honest, flashy dresser, loyal, honest, dreamer, psychic, busy, loves a bargain, observers
  • Dog – Traditional, loyal, sincere, intelligent, private, judgmental, serious, anxious, likes solitude, champions causes
  • Pig or boar – Loving, caring, chivalrous, sincere, honourable, easy to take advantage of, belief in goodness, love food, romantic, jealous

As you can see the Chinese calendar with its Chinese zodiac symbols is most interesting indeed. If you look up your Chinese zodiac sign, you will enjoy the time learning more about yourself.

Chinese Zodiac Signs For Love Compatibility Analysis

by Marco Chong

You have read about using Indian Numerology and Western Astrology to analyse love compatibility. Today you will learn how to analyse love compatibility using the 12 animals of the chinese zodiac and how accurate this method is.

Before I start on the steps on analysing love compatibility through the chinese zodiac signs, let me tell you the story of how the 12 animals came about…

A long time ago, the Jade Emperor in Heaven wanted to find 12 animals to represent each year. He started a race among all the animals. The first 12 that reached heaven will get to rule each year. When the animals knew about this race, all of them started to make their way to heaven.

The Cat and the Rat used to be good friends. The Cat asked the Rat to wake him up the next day, so that they can set off together. The Rat woke up early, feeling very excited, he forgot to wake up the Cat.

On his way to heaven, the Rat met the Ox. Knowing that he could leverage on the Ox, he asked the Ox for a ride. In exchange, he would help the Ox keep a lookout for any dangers during the long journey. The Ox, being an agreeable and easy-going fellow agreed to the Rat’s request.

After reaching heaven, the Rat jumped down from the head of the Ox and became the first animal of the Chinese Zodiac. Although this was very unfair for the Ox, he did not hold it against the Rat. In fact, he was happy for the Rat for being number 1.

The Ox became number 2. (This probably explains why Rat and Ox people get along very well). One by one, the other animals came in one by one. Until the Pig, who is the 12th and the last animal.

At this moment…the Cat woke up. When he found out that the Rat left without him, he was furious. To make matters worse, the Rat was number 1. The Cat swore that he’ll skin the Rat alive if he ever saw the Rat. Which explains why Cats catch Rats in this present day.

Now, how does all this relate to the present?

Each of the 12 animals rule a year. For example if you are born in 2008, you are born in the year of Pig. You will have a lot of characteristics of the Pig. Next, I will list out all the 12 animals and their order.

1st is the Rat.
2nd is the Ox.
3rd is the Tiger.
4th is the Rabbit.
5th is the Dragon.
6th is the Snake.
7th is the Horse.
8th is the Goat.
9th is the Monkey.
10th is the Rooster.
11th is the Dog.
12th is the Pig.

Basing on your date of birth, you can determine what is your chinese zodiac sign and which animal are you born under. If you have difficulty finding out which animal sign you are born under, you can check out from the internet. There are some sites which let you key in your birth date and returns with your chinese zodiac sign.

Next, you will learn about the affinities between each zodiac sign… There are 2 types of affinities, the first is the affinity group and the second is the affinity pair.

The affinity group consist of 3 animals. There are 4 groups altogether. Here they are…

1st group: Rat,Dragon and Monkey.
2nd group: Ox, Snake and Rooster.
3rd group: Tiger, Horse and Dog.
4th group: Rabbit, Goat and Pig.

As for the affinity pair, there are 6 pairs. Here they are…

1. Rat and Ox.
2. Tiger and Pig.
3. Rabbit and Dog.
4. Dragon and Rooster.
5. Snake and Monkey.
6. Horse and Goat.

You should always choose a partner from the affinity group. Your second choice is from the affinity pair. For example…

If you are born in the year of Rat,you should look for a partner born either in Dragon year or Monkey year. If not, someone born in Ox year is also good for you.

That is for the compatible signs. Now you will learn about the incompatible signs. Incompatible signs are also called clashing signs. They are opposite each other. Here they are…

1. Rat clashes with Horse.
2. Ox clashes with Goat.
3. Tiger clashes with Monkey.
4. Rabbit clashes with Rooster.
5. Dragon clashes with Dog.
6. Snake clashes with Pig.

Basing on the information above, you should not look for a partner born under a sign that clashes with yours.

This method of analysing love compatibility is quite general. You are probably wondering…how about those signs which neither clash nor in affinity, how to gauge their compatibility? A way to do that is to compare both signs’ personality then analyse from there. But it’s not accurate.

It is also not true to say that couples with clashing signs will not have a lasting relationship. I have came across a number of them who have clashing signs. But they are still very loving. This method only has a 65% accuracy.

But all is not lost. You can still use this knowledge to entertain new friends you meet at social gatherings.

Marco Chong is a practitioner of Indian Numerology, Chinese Astrology and Feng Shui. He has 15 years of experience behind him. His strong points are analysing compatibility using Indian Numerology and Analysing Birth Charts using Chinese Astrology.
